2nd Annual Louisiana Melon Run

July 26, 2008

The Louisiana Melon Run is an event, just for motorcyclists, that is very similar to a Poker Run. The Melon Run was introduced during the 2007 Louisiana Watermelon Festival in Farmerville, Louisiana. It was such a great success, that we are very excited to host the Melon Run again this year. Last year’s ride was approximately 100 miles long, beginning in Farmerville and traveling through Marion, Sterlington, West Monroe, Downsville and finally returning to Farmerville. Riders made stops at Booker's One Stop in Marion, Williamson's One Stop in Sterlington and DJ's Cycle & ATV Supply in West Monroe to draw their cards.

The Louisiana Melon Run is a part of the Louisiana Watermelon Festival, and both are hosted by the Farmerville Junior Chamber, better known as the Farmerville Jaycees. The Jaycees are a non-profit organization that participate in civic service through the organized efforts of young people in the community. The Jaycees promote the welfare of community and citizens through active, constructive projects in Farmerville, including Jaycee Hall and Inflatable Slide Rentals, and annual events, such as the Mardi Gras Parade, Christmas Parade, Louisiana Watermelon Festival and now the Louisiana Melon Run. 2008 marks our 45th Annual Louisiana Watermelon Festival and our 2nd Annual Louisiana Melon Run.
